The Christian Kitchen is a ministry dedicated to fulfilling Matthew 25 and is made up of volunteers who donate clothing, items of need, and their time to make sandwiches, soup, desserts, refreshments and then distribute the fruit of their labors to men and women who are poor and/or live on the streets of Long Island and Manhattan.

The ministry is more than feeding people, it's about sharing the Light of Christ with those who have barely anything.

The goal is not just to feed but to create relationships with the homeless. We want to bring light into a world that can be very dark at times. We eat together, pray together, and cry together. We try to meet not just physical, but spiritual needs. We try to provide resources to help with medical, drug, family, or housing issues. It is a very blessed ministry and its volunteers are critical to its success.

Come and volunteer on a soup run!

We feed the hungry in Manhattan on most Wednesday nights. During Great Lent, the schedule changes to Tuesday evenings. Other opportunities for serving are also available. Just check the calendar before coming or call the rectory at 516-483-3649. 

Did you know?

• In 2012, over 4,000 people were served by the Christian Kitchen.
• The Christian Kitchen provides meals and assistance to home-bound and sick parishioners of Holy Trinity Church, plus individuals and families on Long Island, and those who live on the streets of Manhattan.
• Special meals are also prepared and distributed for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and "treats" are distributed on Valentine's Day.
• Christmas cookies were also baked with the help of the church school students and parents and handed out on Christmas as well as delivered to the homebound parishioners beforehand
• For Christmas 2012, we served a special meal which included homemade Christmas cookies as members of our choir sand Christmas Carols
• For Thanksgiving 2012, we had over 20 volunteers from our community help prepare the meal and then go out and serve and spend time with those who call the streets their home!
• After Superstorm Sandy the Christian Kitchen donated soup and sandwiches and dry socks to the men and women who worked to remove hazardous trees on Long Island. Holy Trinity parishioner Valerie Eagen had been working 12 hr days supervising this crew!
• After Superstorm Sandy a vanload of clothing and food was donated to help those suffering the effects of the storm.

If you would like to go on a soup run, talk with Fr Martin — it’s an experience you will never forget!

The Christian Kitchen will gladly prepare food for parishioners who are sick or have need.  If you know of someone in need, contact Father Martin or Dennise Kraus. Donations can be made anonymously to support this worthwhile program, and the Christian Kitchen can also deliver meals to those in need when most convenient for you.

Wednesdays (Tuesdays during Great Lent)
The Christian Kitchen gathers on Wednesday evening
at 5:00 pm (unless there are divine services scheduled
that day) to prepare meals for distribution that evening.

At 6:30 pm, a van is packed with the meals before
heading out to feed those in need in Manhattan.

We normally get back to the Church between 9:30-10:00 pm

Winter
travel size toiletries, socks, winter clothing, blankets in preparation for the winter
needs of homeless individuals and families.

Spring
travel size toiletries, shoes, socks, jeans and t-shirts
and sweatshirts.

Summer
In the late summer, we collect school supplies in new
backpacks and distribute them to local needy children.

Fall
travel size toiletries, shoes, socks, jeans and t-shirts
and sweatshirts, coats in preparation for the winter needs of
homeless individuals and families.

The costs of a soup run are about $125/run.

This feeds about 80 people who are hungry for food
