Education
/ About / Education

We believe that it is God's calling for His church to help raise children and guide them to, "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ," (2 Peter 3:18). While parents and guardians have the primary responsibility of educating their children, the church exists to assist in this process.

Classes from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 are held after the Divine Liturgy from September through June.  Catechism classes are held on Saturdays at 4pm. Catechism classes are open to all!

However, the church school, as one of the ministries of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, seeks to base its activities on the foundations of Worship, Education, Service and Fellowship and so though classes may be discontinued during the summer the other activities of the church school are maintained year-round.

Worship, Education, Service and Fellowship

The church school, as one of the ministries of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, bases its activities on the foundations of Worship, Education, Service and Fellowship. With that in mind, education / worship begins at 9:00 am on Sunday mornings with the start of the Hours and Divine Liturgy.

The students and their families are also encouraged to attend the other services of the church year, particularly feast day vigils in the evenings as well as Great Vespers (beginning at 6 pm) on Saturday. In addition, the church school budget includes service projects and fellowship events as ways for the youth of the parish to gather together.

Elementary Class - OrthoTots

The early childhood curriculum in use is called OrthoTots which is being developed by a former classroom teacher. This new curriculum focuses on a few key themes throughout the year: the Church, Old Testament, Parables, Jesus' Miracles, Feast Days, and Lives of the Saints. The goal of this curriculum is to provide young children with a foundational knowledge of our faith through hands-on activities and to spark a life-long curiosity in the church.

Middle & High School Class

The MS/HS class will be examining and discussing the Gospel Luke and the books of Acts using the "Let Us Attend" Curriculum

The Gospel of Luke tells the Good News of Jesus. It’s centered on His life, death, and resurrection. The Acts of the Apostles is like the second volume in a series. It’s written by the same person: St. Luke the Evangelist. It’s meant to come right after the Gospel. It tells the story of how the Good News of the Gospel first began to spread across the Roman Empire. Jesus told His disciples to witness to the Good News. And we are here right now in this place because they did! This year, we’re going to watch this story unfold; first in the Gospel of Luke and then in the Acts of the Apostles. And as we do, let’s remember that this is not just the story of something that happened in the past, but it’s the story of something that is living and active today. Right here. Right now. We, too, have received this Good News, and we too are called to be witnesses to the Good News, just like the apostles!
